It comes with the unique feeling of being in a place filled with so much history. Dignitaries from all sectors of society have visited this marae, Prime Ministers, Governor Generals, British Royalty, United Nations Representatives, NZ Chief Justice, Rear Admiral of the Navy, Maori Leaders from the Confederation of United Tribes and many more.

Our Marae is not only a national icon but is regarded as the political epicentre for the entire Maori Nation.

AND THE CLOSURE OF OUR WHARE TUPUNA WHICH OCCURED 10 SEPT 2023.

Waitangi Marae is a special place of gathering for whanau members who whakapapa to our Hapu Ngati Kawa, Ngati Rahiri and Te Matarahurahu. It is the heart of our Maori Community where many cultural activities are held such as tribal assemblies, welcoming ceremonies, schools of higher learning, rituals, celebratory feasts, weddings, birthdays and funerals. It is the only tribal centre in Waitangi where all of our
​customary Maori events happen frequently. It provides us all with spiritual sustenance.  We, the local people, call it home.
